MBC 2.0 Feature Deep Dive: Funding Insights

In today’s increasingly competitive funding environment, Measurement-Based Care empowers behavioral health leaders with something they need more than ever: objective data that demonstrates the impact of their services.

As expectations around outcomes continue to grow across grants, payer contracts, value-based care arrangements, accreditation, and other funding opportunities, that data can play an important role well beyond the clinical setting. But having the data and knowing how to use it effectively are two very different things.

Organizations need to understand which metrics tell the strongest story, how their performance compares to similar organizations, and how to translate those results into a clear and credible narrative for funders and payers.

That’s why we’re introducing Funding Insights, our newest MBC 2.0 feature designed to help organizations identify their strongest MBC metrics and turn them into compelling, funding-ready narratives.

What is Funding Insights?

Funding Insights is a new analytics experience within Greenspace that automatically identifies where an organization is performing above relevant Greenspace benchmarks, established across more than 750 implementations, and provides the context needed to put that data to work.

Rather than requiring teams to sort through dashboards, determine which metrics are most meaningful, or submit ad-hoc data requests, Funding Insights brings an organization’s most compelling data together in one place.

Admins can quickly:

  • Identify their strongest metrics: Funding Insights automatically surfaces outcome metrics where the organization is performing at or above the Greenspace median, keeping the experience focused on areas of strength.
  • Benchmark performance against peers: Compare performance against the Greenspace median and 75th percentile within relevant treatment categories, providing credible context for organizational results.
  • Build compelling funding narratives: Dynamically generated “Your Demonstrated Performance” narratives translate the organization’s actual results into clear language that can be copied directly into funding applications and presentations.
  • Understand why each metric matters: Plain-language explanations provide context on why funders and payers may care about each measure and how it can support financial conversations.
  • Demonstrate MBC maturity: Implementation metrics including client reach, provider adoption, assessment volume, and average score improvement help organizations demonstrate the scale of their MBC practice, even as their outcomes data continues to develop.

The result is a strengths-first view of an organization’s MBC data that helps teams quickly understand what differentiates their performance and communicate it effectively.

Why It Matters

There is no universal set of outcomes metrics that every funder or payer expects to see. Requirements can vary considerably across grants, contracts, reimbursement models, and funding opportunities. As a result, organizations are often left to determine which of the many metrics they collect will make the strongest case for their services.

Benchmarking can make that story significantly more meaningful. An organization may know, for example, that 60% of its clients achieved reliable improvement. But understanding that the same result places the organization above the 75th percentile among comparable Greenspace organizations gives that number important context.

Until now, accessing and translating that information required significant analysis and time from organizational leaders, but Funding Insights brings that process directly into the platform. Organizations can quickly identify where they stand out, understand why those results matter, and build a credible narrative around their performance.

This expands the value of MBC beyond improving individual care. The same data organizations collect to inform treatment can become a strategic asset for demonstrating impact, differentiating services, and supporting the financial sustainability of their programs.

How Funding Insights Works

Funding Insights is designed to make the path from outcomes data to a compelling funding story as simple as possible.

1. Select the most relevant comparison

Admins can select the clinic, time period, and treatment category that best reflects the story they want to tell. Organizations can narrow their comparison further against relevant programs, populations, and treatment settings. The entire Funding Insights experience automatically updates based on those selections, helping organizations use benchmarks that are relevant to their programs and populations.

2. Automatically identify your strongest results

Funding Insights takes a strengths-first approach to organizational data. Outcome sections are surfaced when an organization meets or exceeds the Greenspace median on at least one applicable assessment. Within each section, Funding Insights focuses specifically on assessments where the organization demonstrates above-average performance.

Performance is then categorized into two tiers:

  • Above average: Performance at or above the Greenspace median.
  • Top quartile: Performance at or above the Greenspace 75th percentile.

Rather than asking administrators to interpret every available data point, Funding Insights immediately focuses their attention on the metrics most likely to strengthen their story.

3. Explore meaningful outcome metrics

Funding Insights surfaces several dimensions of clinical performance, including:

  • Reliable Improvement Rates – See the percentage of clients experiencing clinically meaningful symptom improvement beyond what could reasonably be attributed to measurement error.
  • Recovery Rate – Understand the percentage of clients who began treatment above a clinical threshold and moved below that threshold at follow-up.
  • Severity-Adjusted Improvement – Compare outcomes while accounting for differences in baseline severity, helping provide a fairer view of performance across organizations serving different populations.
  • Therapeutic Alliance – Understand the strength of the client-provider relationship and how alliance scores compare with relevant peers.
  • MBC Practice – Demonstrate the scale and maturity of MBC implementation through metrics such as the number of clients participating in MBC, provider adoption, assessments completed, and average score improvement.

Together, these metrics allow organizations to demonstrate both how effectively MBC has been implemented and the measurable impact clients are experiencing.

4. Turn results into a funding-ready narrative

Knowing that a metric is strong is useful. Knowing how to communicate it is what makes that insight actionable.

For each applicable metric, Funding Insights generates a “Your Demonstrated Performance” narrative based on the organization’s actual results and benchmark position. The language dynamically reflects whether performance is above average or within the top quartile, giving teams a clear, credible way to communicate their results.

Organizations can copy this language directly from Greenspace and adapt it for grant applications, payer conversations, board presentations, and other reporting needs. Each section also explains why the metric matters for funding, helping teams understand how different types of MBC data can strengthen the case they’re making.

Putting Funding Insights Into Practice

The value of Funding Insights isn’t limited to a single funding model. Organizations can use these insights anywhere they need to demonstrate the reach, quality, and impact of their services.

For a grant application, an organization might identify that its reliable improvement rates for depression and anxiety are within the top quartile of comparable organizations and use the generated narrative within the application’s outcomes section.

During payer or rate negotiations, leadership can use severity-adjusted improvement and recovery rates to demonstrate strong outcomes relative to relevant peers and build a stronger case for the value of its services.

For a board presentation, executives can export MBC Practice metrics alongside top-performing outcomes to clearly communicate the reach and impact of their MBC implementation.

Organizations exploring value-based care can use benchmarked performance to demonstrate their ability to consistently measure and deliver meaningful clinical outcomes.

And for accreditation and quality improvement, teams can reference reliable improvement, recovery, therapeutic alliance, and implementation data to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.

Getting More Value From Your MBC Data

MBC 2.0 is focused on making outcomes data easier to understand, act on, and apply at every level of an organization. Funding Insights extends that vision beyond clinical care.

Organizations are already collecting valuable information about whether clients are improving, recovering, engaging in treatment, and developing strong therapeutic relationships. Funding Insights helps ensure that information doesn’t stop at the point of care.

By automatically identifying standout performance, adding meaningful benchmark context, and helping organizations communicate their results, Funding Insights makes it easier to turn MBC data into a strategic asset that can support funding, reimbursement, organizational growth, and long-term sustainability.
