Therapeutic Alliance TASC
Recommended frequency: Every 4 weeks
Summary
The Therapeutic Alliance Scale for Children-revised (TASC-r) was used as a measure of therapeutic alliance across treatment. The TASC is a 12-item, 4-point Likert-type scale completed by the adolescent participant aged 12-18, and there is a parallel version for the therapist to complete. Each item is rated on a 4 point scale ranging from 1 (not at all) to 4 (very much). The total score equals the ratings of the 12 items on the scale. The TASC is unique among alliance measures in that it was designed specifically for use with youth and assesses both positive and negative qualities of the relationship. The TASC has demonstrated adequate internal consistency reliability (a=.72 to .74) in previous investigations
Psychometric Properties
This study examines the psychometric properties of the Therapeutic Alliance Scale for Caregivers and Parents (TASCP) in a sample of 209 caregivers whose children (ages 4–13) presented with disruptive behavior problems to publicly funded outpatient mental health clinics in San Diego County. Information about therapeutic alliance was collected from children, caregivers, and their therapists across the course of therapy (up to 16 months). Results supported the reliability, temporal stability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity of scores on the TASCP.
