Measurement-Based Care (MBC) is rapidly becoming a core standard of excellence for evidence-based behavioral health services. This shift is clear as national accrediting bodies like the Joint Commission and now CARF require procedures for ongoing progress measurement, highlighting the growing importance of MBC in delivering high-quality, effective clinical care.
In response to this rapidly changing landscape, we’re bringing together a panel of experts for an engaging educational session, ‘Measurement-Based Care & CARF Accreditation: Driving Quality Through Measurable Outcomes’, where we’ll explore MBC’s evolving role in accreditation and clinical practice.
Ahead of the session on May 15th, we’d like to introduce one of our panelists, Dr. James Boswell, whose groundbreaking work in psychological interventions and MBC has transformed how organizations approach patient care and treatment outcomes.
Meet Dr. James F. Boswell
James F. Boswell, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Training in the clinical psychology program at the University at Albany, State University of New York. He also serves as an associate at the Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities and is the Past-President of the North American Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR). Dr. Boswell’s work is at the intersection of research, practice, and policy, with a particular focus on the process and outcomes of psychological interventions, as well as the integration of science and practice through MBC.
With over 115 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Boswell has contributed extensively to the field of psychology. His research has been funded by prominent organizations such as the National Institute of Mental Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the American Psychological Association (APA).
His work primarily centers on how to improve clinical practice and treatment outcomes using MBC, which has led to more effective, data-driven approaches in psychological care. In fact, Dr. Boswell has made significant contributions to shaping national healthcare standards. His work has directly informed The Joint Commission Standard for Behavioral Health Outcome Monitoring, and he played a key role in the development of the APA’s Professional Practice Guideline for MBC. These contributions have helped establish benchmarks for monitoring and improving behavioral health treatment outcomes on a national scale.
Dr. Boswell’s groundbreaking work in MBC continues to shape the way behavioral health services are delivered, improving both patient care and clinical outcomes. We are so excited to have Dr. Boswell share his insights in our upcoming webinar, where he will discuss the critical role of MBC in enhancing care quality and highlight the significance of clinical practice guidelines in driving widespread adoption. His insights and expertise will provide invaluable guidance for clinicians and administrators looking to implement MBC and optimize treatment delivery.
